Honey Trap by Tate James
5.0
Oh my gosh. There truly isn’t a better dark romance writer than Tate James. At least from what I’ve read. Each series I read keeps getting better and better.
Honey Trap is book 1 of The Guild series and there is a little bit of crossover from Hades and Madison Kate. While it is not necessary to read them first (at least for this book, TBD on the rest of the series), it’s fun to watch everything pull together.
Okay, so to start. Tate James is incredible at making you love a character, then hate them, then love them, back and forth, back and forth. She writes such complex characters that truly suck you in from page 1. Her stories will leave you trying to read as fast as you can just so that you can absorb them. Honey Trap was no exception.
So we have seen Leon and Danny before, albeit briefly. I loved the tie-back from Leon to Lucas. I didn’t realize that tie before. Or if I did, I didn’t truly comprehend it.
I love the excess depth to Leon. Hacker by day, executioner by night. The persona he gives off vs who he truly is. Tate James made a wonderful juxtaposition within Leon.
Danny is incredible. The strength and tenacity that she has to stay within character but also be able to stay herself to recognize the situations she is in and what she needs to do. As a reader, you can’t help but be both impressed with her and sympathetic for what she goes through. Trying to keep her head on straight so that she can figure a way out of her predicament while also not breaking her character.
Kai. Now there is a man that I am curious to see what happens. He is just as good as Danny at playing a role. And getting in too deep. Will he be able to separate feelings from reality? Will he be able to see reality? And honestly, what actually is reality for them?
I need more Mo! I love her, I hope she and Danny end up true friends.
Tate James is also the queen at cliff hangers. And this cliff hanger….dang! Time for book 2!
Do not read if you have any triggers related to kidnapping, imprisonment, sexual abuse, torture, etc.
