Dark, twisty, and impossible to look away from—I devoured Slewfoot in a single day. The story absolutely hooked me, especially the last 100 pages, which were a wild, fast-paced ride. Brom paints a gritty, atmospheric world full of tension, injustice, and a creeping sense of dread that never quite lets up.
What stood out the most to me was the feminine rage simmering beneath the surface—then boiling over in the best way. Watching Abitha navigate a world designed to silence and control her was both infuriating and empowering.
One of the most chilling aspects of the book was how quickly religion, crowd mentality, and a few well-placed lies can spiral into something dangerous and absurd. The way fear and fanaticism twisted reality into a full-blown farce felt disturbingly familiar—and painfully relevant.
While this didn’t land as a perfect read for me, the themes of identity, power, and freedom definitely left an impression. If you’re in the mood for something witchy, vengeful, and just a bit unholy—this one’s for you.
