This was an action-packed, unapologetically activist young adult book. I enjoy how passionately and clearly Angeline Boulley introduces the issues she focuses on in this book, seemingly without holding back and without patronizing the reader. I liked our main character and her family and friends. The scene-setting is well done; the community on Sugar Island feels real and is so rich with history and traditions that it’s clear Boulley knows what she is writing about.
