The Analyst by John Katzenbach
4.0

I don't usually read books other than romances. But a friend recommended this book because she really liked it and thought it was interesting. I'm studying psychology so I thought it would be nice. From the moment I read the first page I was hooked. Through all the book I entered into Ricky's life and tried reading between lines to figure out who Rumplestiltskin was. It's a true journey. And it made me want to keep reading! So I'm definitely gonna check Jonh Katzenbach works.
It is amazing the way Ricky changes from the first page to the last. At first he is confused when he gets the letter and tries to ignore it but then he realizes how in danger he really is. We see him run out of time in frustration to save his life and that of his family and acquaintances. I like how Rumplestiltskin really influences in his life. How a person you don't know if it even exists changes you, because it really changes Ricky.
I also thought it was interesting how Ricky lived in his loneliness but was so used to it that it didn't bother him until the moment he got the note and he noticed how distant he was from his family and that resulted depressing to read. And also, when Mr. R. threaten to hurt his family we see how in a debate he is. He doesn't want those people who he doesn't even know, getting hurt because of his mistake, but he also doesn't want to die. We see the good part of Ricky, in chosing to save that people he doesn't know, how he appreciates life. And how he thinks over his mistakes in his younger life. Sometimes we make decisions without thinking what the out comes of that in our future. And that situation in specific made me think how important we as psychologist are to patients. How our words are taking so serious and how we influence in their life. It made me realize we are like some kind of god to patients. So I learned that we can't take for granted and have to be really careful because we are gonna work with people, like doctors, and personally, a psychologist work is harder, somehow, than the doctor's. Not saying one is better, both are extremely helpful. But a doctor most of the time has a solution. And all the time the same solution for an specific sympton. And our work is with a human's mind which you can never really know at all. Every human mind is a mystery. And sometimes we can't even trust what people say but we have to read beyond that. Also the lives of them depend on us sometimes and one single word can take them to a point of no return.
