This read a lot like a mystery story, because the whole time you as the reader but also the protagonist Xerys are trying to find out what happened 400 years ago to drive Jedoa so mad that he killed all his troops. Jedoa himself is not very forthcoming on the matter as he’s working to find out if he can trust Xerys before he shares too much. Riveting stuff if you can accept the flow of the story and don’t get caught up in finicky details too much.
