I loved this story so, so much!
the world building was amazing. I loved how there were flashbacks from Paige's past that were crucial to see how the world came to be Scion.
the concept of the "Unnaturals" and auras and dreamscapes and different orders of clairvoyants is so unique and I loved everything about it.
Paige is a very flawed character whose identity relies heavily on her abilities as a dreamwalker and I loved seeing her grow to see herself as more than just the abilities that she was more or less born with.
the Seven Dials as Paige's family, Paige's life in Sheol I and her relationship with the performers and the Warden all really sucked me into the story. I loved seeing the different dynamics and reading the distinctive different characters and how they contributed to Paige being the person she is at the end of the novel.
the story itself was just amazing. I loved the writing and I am so, so impressed with Samantha Shannon, who published this novel first in 2013, when she was only 22 years old and although I read the Author's preferred text, which is an updated version of the story, I cannot commend her enough for her great writing style!
the ending seemed to me like a cliffhanger, but not really. it was a perfect way to end this, but I took a peek at The Mime Order and it seemed to continue right where it left off in The Bone Season.
which is a great way to keep readers engaged imo and I will definitely pick up the sequel asap!
a few theories and hopes I have for the next books:
- I have a feeling that Jaxon is the human that betrayed the people in Sheol I during the Novembertide
- Arcturus and Paige will definitely find their way back to each other, but I don't know if it will be romantically or if their relationship will develop in another direction
- the rebellion at Sheol I during the Bicentenary is just the start of a much bigger war between the Unnaturals and Scion and it will span the complete series
- I hope to see Zeke reciprocate Nick's feelings and something to come out of it
- Jaxon needs a reality check; I cannot stand him and he needs to be put in his place (which is not as Mime King!)
