Isla and the Happily Ever After by Stephanie Perkins

5.0

“I am hard on myself. But isn’t it better to be honest about these things before someone else can use them against you? Before someone else can break your heart? Isn’t it better to break it yourself?”

If you've read the first two books and haven't read this one yet, READ IT! If you have read it, please, someone, anyone, fangirl/fanboy with me because I need to talk about something that happened in this book! If you've read it, you'll know what I'm talking about!!!

This book is by far my favorite one in the trilogy/companion novel series, because everything from the past two books wraps up so nicely. When I first read Anna and the French Kiss, I wasn't impressed but the books have gone so far in the span on three books.

On to the actual book review:

1) The Plot

Anna takes place in France, Lola takes place in San Francisco, and Isla takes place in Manhattan/France! The settings in these books are phenomenal, because she describes all the areas so well and it's amazing. I LOVE how she described New York!

Isla is a student at the School of America in Paris (SOAP), and this book revolves around her love for Josh who we first met in Anna and the French Kiss. Whenever this book first started off, it had me laughing out loud from page 2, because Isla had just gotten her wisdom teeth removed and she was loopy and hitting on Josh and AH. It was so good!

These books are so cute, and if you want to get out of a reading slump, these are the books for you.

2) The Characters

Isla -

I cast Isla as Holland Roden from the MTV show Teen Wolf! I think Isla is my favorite narrator throughout these books! I just found myself relating to her so much, far more than I could relate to Anna or Lola, and I fell in love with her.

Josh -

I cast Josh as Robert Sheehan from the failure that was The Mortal Instruments movie. I love seeing Josh again, especially getting to go deeper in his character and see how sweet he was and how heartfelt, it was so nice to read from him again.

3) The Writing

- “For a certain type of person, high school will always be brutal,' the head says. 'The best advice that I can give you is to figure out what comes next, and work towards that.”

- “... But we stayed together because... I don't know why. Maybe because we thought we should be in love. At least I did. I wanted to be in love.”

- “I'm... a blank canvas. There's nothing here to love.”

- “Phones are distracting. The internet is distracting. The way he looked at you? He wasn't distracted. He was consumed.”

- “Do adults realize how lucky they are? Or do they forget that these small moments are actually small miracles? I don’t want to ever forget.

Conclusion

Without a doubt, my favorite installment!

★★★★.5/5!
