Interesting concept. The gradual unfolding of the past and present was well done. The mystery surrounding everything had me curious and kept me reading. I was on the edge of my seat when the mystery was being revealed.

And if you enjoy words, or maybe went to school studying poetry, you might get even more out of this story.

The last third of the book made me appreciate the characters a lot more. Up until that point I was having a hard time liking them.

And I felt like there could have been more descriptions. Almost like the author wanted a “fast paced” book but sacrificed important detail along the way. Certain scenes felt jarring and confusing. And the dialogue I felt was clunky at times.

There was a startling amount of SA and thoughts of SA from a specific character POV. But its written in a way thats very blasé and harder to spot on the surface. Its hard to explain without spoilers. And to be fair, this could have been a narrative choice. I finished the book not knowing if this was a really icky character flaw or if the author really didn’t see anything wrong with it??

I can see why people appreciate / love this book. A very solid read. But something kept me from loving it.
