Naruto, Vol. 1: Uzumaki Naruto by Masashi Kishimoto
5.0

This was my first Graphic Novel/ Manga book and although it took a little getting used to with the layout being completely different to my normal books I completely loved it and cannot wait to read the rest of the books in this series then other Graphic Novels/ Manga books.

The main character is the title character Naruto a troublesome teenage boy who is involved in training to become a ninja (type thing). He is notorious for pulling pranks and pissing off the towns people and his fellow ninja's in training but that isn't why the townspeople hate him. He has the demon nine tailed fox trapped in his body meaning that he is shunned by the townspeople and trained harder than the others at the ninja school. This book is a collection of seven stories (chapters) in Naruto's ninja training as he faces risks and dangerous characters.

There are some secondary characters but they were only introduced in the last two stories (chapters) in the book so I don't feel I have enough material yet to comment on them.

The storyline is very original and gripping, as readers get sucked into Naruto's training and his life. The pacing of each story was great making readers want to go on and read the next one and they weren't hugely long so it could be read in a short amount of time. I especially liked that the last story (chapter) in this book ended on a cliffhanger making me want to buy and read the next book in the series. The illustrations that go with the story are great adding to the story and giving the characters pictures that readers can relate to.

5 stars a new favourite and a completely new genre to me
