The Peppermint Tea Chronicles by Alexander McCall Smith

5.0

Alexander McCall Smith gives us tantalising snippets of Scotland Street residents' lives: beginning with Big Lou, threading his way through stories of children being given small dogs by hostile circus performers, the surreptitious buying clothes for stubborn husbands, burying strange dead cats.... we end with a glimpse of romance, and each thread being tied neatly.
A theme in this book is provenance. Where you come from - and how it isn't really your fault. Each character explores this concept in their own way, leading us to meander over the idea in our own, in our own time and way.
