I finally decided to come back to this series after a year away because I was intimidated by the size of the tandem read. After talking to multiple book friends who have also read this series and enjoyed it I decided to take a chance and attempt the Tandem read of Empire of Storms and Tower of Dawn for the TBRathon readathon hosted by LeandratheTBRzero! The point of this readathon is the lessen the amount of your physical TBR. I am so glad I listened and picked these books back up!

Empire of Storms may beat out Tower of Dawn just a little bit for me personally. I did really enjoy both books but if you want my feelings on TOD please go to that review!

Empire of Storms picked up right where Queen of Shadows left off and at first I thought I was going to have a hard time remembering details from QOS because it has been a year since I read that book. Fortunately I was fine and I think the audiobook definetly helped me. It took me a little while to put faces and names to characters again but after a while I was totally fine and was absorbed into the story. This book was action packed. I really enjoyed the multiple storylines happening at the same time it kept the story interesting! So much happens in the book and I think Sarah J. Maas is a mastermind for coming up with every twist and turn and putting it all together!

I literally loved every storyline and how it all came together! My favorite storyline tho is probably Alien and Rowen. I like that there romance was slow burn and we really got to know them as individuals throughout this one. Rowen will literally do anything for his Queen and his actions show it!

I also really enjoyed Manon and Lysandra! Both of these side characters are BADASS! I would not want to get on either of their bad sides! These 2 are probably my favorite side character storylines!

The storyline that surprised me most was Lorcan and Elide! I don't trust Lorcan for a second but I think Elide is bringing out a side of him was have yet to see. Do I think he is dangerous and scary as hell also yes. Do I trust him absolutely not.

The final scenes of this book broke me. I hate Mave and I pray that Alien can find a way of her current situation. I won't go into too many details but basically the ending of this book is the reason why I am picking up Kingdom of Ash tonight. I have literally been waiting all day at work to dive back into this world and find out what happens next! I think I will be broken by this final book tho!

For 2024 I hope to stop worrying so much about if I'm going to like a book or not. I want to go into my reading with a open mind and not worry about the hype or if I'm not going to like something. I could have finished this series in 2023 if I wasn't so focused on fitting into a mold of being a Sarah J. Maas girly. If I like a book I like it if not thats ok too!
