The Brothers Karamazov
by Fyodor Dostoevsky
A novel about ideas and concepts rather than events. Dostoyevsky is a master at dissecting the human condition - discussing faith and religion above all else.
This book hit me extremely hard especially when Dostoyevsky covers topics of childhood innocence and child cruelty. You can tell that the author was heartbroken by the real suffering of children which he witnessed during his lifetime.
The book is highly psychological in nature.
A hard read at times due to the size but certainly worth it.
