I Have Some Questions for You by Rebecca Makkai
4.0

4.5/5

I go back and forth on whether this is truly a 5-star read.

I read this over the course of a single weekend, totally engrossed in the plot and the cast of characters. While the narrator, Bodie, is distant, I was drawn to the connections made between her traumatic backstory, her memories of her time at Granby, and the murder of her roommate.
While Makkai asks some big questions about accountability, exploitation, privilege, and power I don't know if the conclusions were really earth-shattering.
The final portion of the novel, taking place in 2022, was a contradictory combination of lackluster and enthralling. If you like tidy endings, this will end on a frustrating note.

For right now I will likely leave my rating at 5 stars, though I could see it being rounded down over time. This isn't a book that you really enjoy, but it did hook it's claws into me and refuse to let go.
