I will preface this by saying that I did enjoy this book. I absolutely smashed through it in just a few sittings (including an all nighter). It was incredibly easy reading and it had a pleasantly engaging style. I’m strongly considering reading the next in the series.

The main issue I had with this book, which really took away from it for me, was the fact that it simply wasn’t believable. The characters didn’t feel real, the dialogue felt forced and the relationships (particularly the headline one) didn’t make sense to me. I wasn’t able to buy into the characters or their stories simply because I didn’t feel like they were realistic representations of humans. This is coming from a person who loves fantasy stories, the characters have to make sense and feel real in the world they’re in; these didn’t for me.
