Her Last Goodbye by Rick Mofina

4.0

Jennifer Griffin went out to her book club one night and never came home. Her husband, Greg, immediately begins searching when she isn’t home by midnight. When he can’t find her around the neighborhood by dawn, he calls the police. The police suspect Greg. The press is invasive. Greg has the couple’s 8-year-old son to consider. Greg and Jennifer both have complicated backstories and family situations which added to the novel and came into play later. I thought that was especially well done.

The first part of this novel is a pretty standard police procedural with a lot of repetition. You find out information in one scene, then the exact information is repeated in the next two or three scenes. It caused the first 40% of the book to move very slowly. Then there were some interesting twists that started to happen around the halfway point and the book became really good with multiple surprises coming all the way to the end. There was a major subplot that was really interesting that was never really tied up in terms of loose ends. I wished that had been resolved. Overall, enjoyed this mystery/thriller. 4/5 stars.
