The Likeness by Tana French
5.0

This is my 4th and favorite Tana French so far. As usual, the writing and the audiobook performance are outstanding. The book is beautiful, suspenseful, intense, emotional, and also a very satisfying follow-up to In the Woods (it felt necessary in that way).

I had one major issue with the book. The character Daniel seems to me to be coded as autistic, and at times I felt very upset about how he was treated by other characters and the writing in general. While he is generally beloved there were also moments when it felt like the book thought something was wrong with him in a way I had difficulty unpacking. It's tricky to gauge what exactly is being said by his characterization, partly because (and this is a good thing), he and everyone else were very complex characters. I'd be curious to hear what others think.
