This book made me wonder whether I was reading a romance novel that had a horrible mystery attached to its side, or a murder mystery that was trying, and failing, to incorporate romance. This book couldn't settle on a genre. And because of this it was a rocky roller-coaster ride. This book held my interest at some points but then would lose me for several chapters.
It was glaringly obvious that I had picked up a book in the middle of a series. In most cases this isn't a problem because the book will strike my interest and I'll look into the rest of the series. However this book just didn't do that, the way it danced around the happenings in the previous books turned me off of the series completely.
