I couldn't even finish reading this book, it was so bad. I'm all for a good diverse character group, but this plotline was SO obviously written by a clueless, straight, white woman. The white savior complex that Axel had from the very beginning of the book was far more troubling than charming, and the "macho" gay man making "yo mama" jokes with his bar buddies was just....so hard to stomach. Aside from the plot just being awful, it was also written really poorly. I found it hard to read the dialogue between characters. This entire book was just one big pile of vomit. The sex scenes were okay, but the whole mess going on in the plot was just too gross to overlook. I stopped reading it when Rena's property was vandalized by extreme white supremacists and her boyfriend (yet again) decided he needed to take charge of the situation in his own way, and then even though Rena is (very rightfully) mad she...heads over to his house and makes passionate love to him??? I just....what??? Make it make sense, Marie! Like I know it was written by a female, but it just screams "I was made for the male audience" to me.
