Taking Chances

This book didn't work for me AT ALL. The book Boyfriend Series by Erin Noelle did a much better job with a storyline similar to this one. However, I'm not going to compare the two.
In regards to Taking Chances, I think if it were broken into 2 separate unrelated books they would have been right up my alley. Take the first half of the book; leave everything the same except instead of Chase leaving and getting in an accident. He fights for their relationship. Maybe while he's fighting and earning Harper's trust she realizes she loves Brandon but isn't in love with Brandon like she is Chase, and Chase finally gets his girl and HEA. Or hell, leave the accident. He could be in a coma, Trish shows up confesses to drugging him, which causes Harper to freak out and so Brandon goes in to "talk" to Chase. Tells him Harper needs him, the baby needs him etc and maybe Brandon realizes he's not IN love with Harper and tells Chase he does deserve her. Chase wakes up....HEA. And while he's there, Brandon meets a cute nurse and bam! Brandon gets his own book and love story........ See that would be a great book/series.
Now if the plot for the second half was just a separate book about a girl who lost the guy she loved and was going to have a baby with, and ended up finding a second chance at love... That would be a great book too. She could even already know the guy she ends up with but b/c she lost someone she loves, she's hesitant to give her heart away again and he is super sweet and fights to show her it's ok to love again etc.
Separately they would be great books but together it didn't work for me. I didn't like how obviously Harper was in love with Chase but instead of paying attention she assumed she knew what he was doing and what kind of girl he wanted. Like seriously you're aware of when he enters the room but you didn't notice he wasn't drinking or paying any attention to the girls around him? I wasn't ok with how quickly everyone moved on from Chase's death. I was not ok with Harper naming Chase's son after Brandon's dad. I was not ok with Liam calling him Uncle Chase. So for me it really didn't work.
