Heart of a Witch
by Rebecca L. Garcia
4.5 stars! Enemies to lovers, witches and witch hunters, siblings out for vengeance, a suicide mission, slow burn, and a constant, building, ominous tension right up to the end. When Victoria witnesses her sisters brutal death at the hands of an infamous witch hunter, her soul is set on fire, determined to exact revenge. Her small dabbling in dark magic takes an even darker turn, as she sets her sights on Elijah, the witch hunters son. But Elijah isn’t what she expects. Terrorized and tormented by his domineering father, Elijah wants nothing to do with his father’s witch hunting legacy, but that doesn’t stop his dislike for witches. But in order to protect his younger brother from his father’s wrath, Elijah will do anything, including appeasing his father by agreeing to train. But when he meets Victoria, the mysterious newcomer to town, his whole world is turned upside down, and he has no idea that she’s the one who’s doing the flipping.
Such an interesting twist on your typical enemies to lovers tale - where the antagonist of the story is actually Victoria, and Elijah is the unsuspecting man who gets caught up in her plans. And she is determined to get her revenge, even when things start getting deeper with Elijah, she won’t back down. The building to the ultimate confrontation is tense and emotional, and I found myself wondering how the heck they were going to move past some of the things that were happening. But in the end, which is not entirely predictable, we get the HEA we are hoping for, and it is completely worth it. Buckle up, this is quite a ride, emotional and dark, sexy and sweet, and wholly satisfying.
