The Mothers by Brit Bennett

5.0

i’ll keep this short since I feel like everyone has already reviewed this but it was wonderful and you should read it. short enough that it flies by but heavy enough that it sticks with you, this is a great book to get you out of a slump.

i’ve seen some people say the narrative style, where the church mothers are the narrators, is confusing but I enjoyed that. I think it helped capture the community well and it allowed a level of distance from the characters that added to the story.

my only remotely negative emotion after reading this is that I wanted more from these characters because I loved Brit Bennett’s writing. I can’t wait to read The Vanishing Half!
