Weaveworld by Clive Barker

2.0

Only someone like Clive Barker could devise a fantasy world that leaves me enraptured for more, and yet desperate to get out. Barker seems intent on cramming an entire trilogy's worth into one (barely condensed) novel, whose initial acts are beautifully woven, and yet much like the fantasy world of the book's namesake, come undone by some overwrought narrative threads. Not helped by the peanut gallery of characters that aggravate to no end, and two leads who're defined by one having the agency to want to do better but lacking the power, and the other having the power but lacking the agency to do much of anything until it's too late.
