Ken Follet had his masterpiece in "Pillars of the Earth." None of the other books have been as good including this one. Although enjoyable, it is a similar story, and characters are similar to the others. At times it is predictable and sometimes it takes on the sound of a soap opera or a heated romance novel. Also since this is historical fiction, I don't expect to hear words like ignoramus which after Googling it found that its first known use was in 1616, more than 600 years after the setting of this story. One of the best things about this book is the reader John Lee. He is truly one of the best readers I have ever listened to.
