And here we have another booktok recommendation that just didn’t do it for me. I’ve been reading a LOT of books that fellow booktokers have recommended and I have to say most of them have been total flops. I’m starting to wonder why this is lol. Anyways, I put this book down a few days ago and said to myself there’s just no way I’m reading this till the end. The writing is pretentious (just as described by many other reviewers), the lack of paragraphs is infuriating (5-10 pages straight with NO PARAGRAPHS), and a lot of the book just doesn’t make sense. But I read some of the better reviews and decided I’d go back in and try and see if the book could get better. Does it? Yes and no.

The writing style either changes a little after 60 pages making it easier to read OR you just get used to it (I can’t tell which is true for me). Then the plot starts to take shape making it a little more interesting. There’s some weird stuff, a few creepy scenes, and other scenes that make you say WTF. All of this should have made for a better reading experience until we got to the end. Why on earth did she leave it open ended like that! This COULD have been a 3.5-4 star read but ending it in that disgusting and infuriating way made me just not like the book. Why was it even necessary? There’s no clear reason WHY the teacher was doing what she was doing IN THE WAY SHE WAS DOING IT. Then it just ends… with no real conclusion. Not fair. I feel like I gave a book another chance, got invested in it, and was left hanging. I didn’t appreciate it in the slightest.

So, would I recommend it? No. What could have been a good book about teens doing weird and sometimes bad things turned into a book of absolute nonsense with no resolution. And there were some really filthy and disgusting things thrown in just for the sake of it.
