The children are sweet (especially Chauncey!), Linus and Arthur are cute together and the house and island and village and family life were very cosy to read about, and I loved the general message of the book. But otherwise it fell sooo flat for me. The main character's constant therapy speak, the disconnected plot... even though the stakes were very high, it just didn't click. I don't know if it was the way the characters acted or what exactly I was missing. But it was hard to care about what was going to happen next with DICOMY. At the halfway point I also felt like the author was scrambling to find things to write about and fill pages... And look. I'm all for cheesiness. But there were moments where it was simply too much and I had to skip ahead. I wish it would've been more nuanced.
