The Sirens by Emilia Hart

4.5

Altogether it is an ultimate comfort read. I loved the magical realism elements and the characters bonding on these elements. The wording is easy to understand and I found it easy to get lost in the pages.

Even though the middle is technically predictable, as the other reviews say, I didn't guess it, purposefully. Mostly, because I'd rather experience the story as I am reading it and not directly jump to conclusions.

On the downside, the rating went down 0.5 because the beginning was too lengthy before something important to the storyline came along. With that said, the second and third parts were way better.

So saying that the book is medium paced would mean that: the first 50% was slow, the next 25% was medium, and the last 25% was fast. I do think the main explanation for this is that Jess's pov comes too late in the book.

Spoiler:
Loved that Lucy's father ended up being Max. But I absolutely hated how the dad cheated with the siren??? So he cheated on his wife after she had multiple miscarriages. Like what?? It really goes against the whole purpose of Hart's books, no? So I'll just pretend the epilogue does not exist.
