Blue Book Volume 1: 1961
by James Tynion IV
fast-paced
How many times can you use the word “strange” in a single story? I had a hard time getting past the repetitive writing here. I’m not sure if “strange” was used every other word because of the recorded hypnosis sessions or another original source, but it bugged the heck out of me.
On the other hand, over the course of the original pages, I thought differently about this story than I had before, especially in the context of these two as a mixed-race couple and how terrifying that sense of being chased must have been. That said, I still don’t buy into the alien abduction—sorry, I know too much about hypnosis, memory, and how people can be influenced—and this comic felt extremely surface-level in terms of any real interrogation.
