I feel like whatever I write won't ever do justice to the impact of this book. What an epic story and told in only 300 pages! This is a must-read.

I honestly never annotate my books, but I could tell early into the book she wrote with specific language, metaphors, and plot devices that I knew I wanted to annotate so I could come back to earlier pages and analyze connections. I thought her choice to set each chapter from a new person's point of view was genius and a really unique way to tell a story over generations. I don't want to give more away about the POV's, but you'll catch on very soon as you begin to read. That's all I'll say about the story. You should go in with little to no info if you can.

Side note about book format: I started the audiobook while I was on a long drive but had the physical copy on my shelf. When I got home, I decided to listen and read along at the same time. It took me longer to finish the book but doing it that way let me hear all the pronunciations of Akan (Twi & Fante) words and Ghanaian names and places. The audiobook narrator, Dominic Hoffman, also did an incredible job of doing a variety of accents.
