Shade Me
by Jennifer Brown
I have been going back through my old shelves and checking out books that got high marks from me or series I got sidetracked from finishing.
I loved [b:Hate List|6316171|Hate List|Jennifer Brown|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1479653095s/6316171.jpg|6501420] for being brave in writing on the subject matter of school shootings. At this time i mostly read mysteries so didn't pursue any more books by this author.
I have read other books about Synesthesia which is a disorder where you see colors associated with numbers, things and people's emotions. I have always been intrigued by this and [b:Collecting the Dead|26114361|Collecting the Dead (Special Tracking Unit #1)|Spencer Kope|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1446177957s/26114361.jpg|45958244] did it quite well and [b:The Body Finder|6261522|The Body Finder (The Body Finder, #1)|Kimberly Derting|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1358266631s/6261522.jpg|6196751] didn't do a bad job either. So I was quite excited for this book. Sadly it was a let down.
Nikki seeing colors took a back seat to everything else in this story. And there is a lot going on.
It starts off with blackmail, a mysterious phone call and a victim in the hospital. It quickly unravels into too many things going on at once. For some reason Nikki decides to find out the truth about the blackmail and falls insta love with the main suspect. We also have escort services, drug runners, prostitution and questions about parent's secrets. With this all going on, the story never quite comes together and the twist is so obvious to the reader but takes Nikki over 300 pages to figure it out, the last 100 pages of the book makes it an okay read but couldnt save the whole novel.
