The Buried Giant by Kazuo Ishiguro
5.0
This is the first book by Kazuo Ishiguro that I’ve read and the writing style is fantastic.
The ending of the book really threw me at first as it ends in such a somber way, but ultimately the metaphor for Alzheimer’s/Dementia’s impact on aging and their loved ones was so well represented that I do really love the ending on further reflection.
The wit and humor in this book was remarkable and had me understanding this a new favorite very early on. The relationship between our leads is so sweet and wholesome, the stoic excellence of Wistan, and the bafoonery of Sir Gawain all made for amazing characters. The younger boy was a great and logical add as well, but the chapter from his perspective was a little too sexually charged for my personal liking.
