it was … ok. i was expecting a lot more engagement w power dynamics by the book’s blurb. it just seemed quite surface-level and not actually that important for the characters? i think jane eyre does that better ??? my favourite scenes were the ones with hunsden in them, especially the ones where he and frances debate. basically they were both way more interesting than the main guy. hunsden’s power is that which does not need to be and cannot be bestowed by anyone. but he seems to sacrifice a lot to maintain it. i’m honestly not sure who i’d rather be.
