The Adventure of English: The Biography of a Language by Melvyn Bragg
3.0
I think that I might have given this book a 4 if I wasn't listening to it on Audible. A few times the lists of words were a bit lengthy. The reader's performance was excellent.
Though occasionally bogged down in lexiconical boasting and British back-patting The Adventure of English is filled with bits of interpretive history that I (and often the author) has no way of backing up, but it makes a good yarn in many places.
