Thank you to PRHAudio for the ALC. The narration was seriously AMAZING, I didn’t miss having a second voice at all because her voice acting was so good.
As for the content: Not as adventurous as I would like for a book about an archeological adventure. The pacing is pretty slow. I also think it’s very hard to pull off a romance where one character is hiding something SUPER major from the other and yet they are supposed to fall in love. Especially whenthat information is unbalanced. I really wish I could’ve seen the FMC’s touted intelligence in action figuring him out or figuring out that *anyone* was sabotaging her expedition but she was solely reactionary with every surprise or detour this whole book and it just honestly felt unfair to her!
What saved this for me was the romance. I wouldn’t say it’s an overly “romantic” or swoonworthy story it’s more that they are just so into each other. It’s insta-lust but also basic admiration. I don’t know, signs point to me rating this lower than 4 but with the narration and how much I loved and wanted them together I can’t go lower.
