I know people who have read and loved this book—even one of their favorites of all time. That’s why, I was so excited to read this (with really high expectations). I wanted to love it so badly, but I just couldn’t get fully in it. The writing was beautiful, yes, it wasn’t as hard to decipher as the other books published in the same year. Contrary to reviews I’ve read, the beginning was my favorite part. It was really promising. But then, variations of names of generations to generations started to show up, and I couldn’t keep up.

It took me a month to finish this, and it kind of put me in a slump. I get the iconic magical realism part, and i’d say that was one of the things i loved about this book. But overall, reading this was not the most pleasant experience for me.
