Blue Latitudes: Boldly Going Where Captain Cook Has Gone Before by Tony Horwitz

4.0

I read this for an on-line blog book club sort of thing at www.citizenreader.com called the “Book Ménage”. I appreciated the author's point about reinterpreting history versus rewriting it and his balanced approach in the book; neither vilifying nor condoning the behavior of Cook and his crew and that of the peoples they encountered. I dug the tidbit about Aboriginal language having no word for “love” so that the missionaries had to translate “Jesus is my best friend”.
