Instant Regret by E.M. Lindsey

4.0

Huh, well, who knew that I'd like Forrest so much more than I did Jules? That's not to say that I didn't like Jules but I felt like Forrest's character was more dynamic. It could be that the external relationships he engages with were more interesting and it was no hardship to read about his brother, bestie, and parents and their interactions with him! Although he's this grumpy character who can't stand people, I really enjoyed his humour and the way he showed affection towards those he cared about, including Jules.

The second book in this duet basically recaps what happened in the first book but through Forrest's POV, and then it continues from where the first book ended on a cliffhanger. I don't think I've ever read a romance with a blind protagonist before and I loved the perspective and representation, although I can't speak on the accuracy or reality of it. Although his disability does define a lot of his interactions and the ways people treat him throughout his life, Forrest doesn't let it define him or limit his life and I loved that! There is still grief and there are heavily emotional moments in this book but I also feel like there's more hope and joy too. We see Forrest heal and with Jules' unwitting influence he also starts taking steps to get back to the world after shutting himself away for 5 years following a traumatising incident that changed the course of his life.

I loved that we got to see more of the exchanges he had with Jules and I'm glad that we got to see how their relationship progressed following the incident at the end of book one. When Forrest falls, he falls hard and fast for Jules and although it is a bit insta, I actually didn't mind it because I found their connection genuine and I really enjoyed their chemistry and dynamic! The ending following the cliffhanger of book one was also pretty satisfying. I admit that I wanted a bit more of their time together once they are together but I still really enjoyed this duet and I'm glad that it was put on my radar!
