I might have liked this book more if Diana Gabaldon hadn’t spent a significant amount of the first portion of the book recapping and retconning previous books. It took so long for something new to happen that this book could have been half as long as it was. Also, do the Frasers have to go about collecting all the sad souls in the colonies and bringing them home? And do we have to always conveniently run into characters just when we need them in towns and cities literally up and down the entirety of these colonies? I was really only interested in the bits with Hal and John, as well as Brianna and William. The sibling relationships are what’s keeping me going with these books, I guess.
