Love a short book. Despite the incredibly upsetting and disturbing premise, couldn’t tear my eyes away, which probably makes me similar to several characters in the book. Reading this book was like picking a scab and watching blood well up. Who hasn’t, in the early parenthood sleep-deprived haze, imagined all the terrible things that could happen to their child? This novella brings one such scenario to life in economical and efficient prose.
The pandemic setting (sometimes a turn-off) worked well to complement the stark and isolating nature of the family’s grief.

Graphic: Child death
Moderate: Infidelity, Pandemic/Epidemic
Minor: Suicidal thoughts
