Crying in H Mart by Michelle Zauner

5.0

It seems odd to comment on someone's memoir as if it's a story - like 'sorry your life wasn't interesting enough', or something. So it feel disingenuous to give it less than five stars.

Michelle perfectly captures the first gen immigrant mother-and daughter relationship that resonates with so many of us. She doesn't overdo the revelations that come from healing as her readers already know it well, it's more like sharing your experiences with others who have gone through similar things. Heritage divides, cultural clashes and understanding yourself so that you can understanding the people you love.

Warm and heart-breaking and cathartic, all at the right times.
