I had no idea what was going on half of the time. For some reason it took me 2 weeks to finish this even though the book only has 286 pages. I was certain I would give this maybe a 3 star rating, but the ending elevated it to 4.
I was actually wondering quite early in the book if the protagonist really is her or is it the other way around, but I wasn't sure. So I kind of saw part of the ending coming, but definitely not in its entirety. The writing is beautiful and descriptive, almost like poetry at times. As a non-native English speaker, it was sometimes a bit hard to understand all of the really intricate language, but I did enjoy of its originality.
The ending is sad, but it made me kind of content. The author weaves beautifully together all the little details and hints she's been sprinkling throughout the book and I couldn't have imagined a better and more fulfilling ending for this gorgeous fairytale.
