An eloquent study of four women – dreamy Chiamaka, who spends the pandemic reflecting on her past relationships; her fiesty cousin Omelogor, recently returned to Nigeria after a disastrous stint in the USA; her best friend Zikora, abandoned by her partner when she announces she's pregnant ; and her housekeeper Kadiatou, a Guinean immigrant who finds herself navigating a brutal American justice system. Adiche is a wonderful writer and I found myself completely immersed in each woman's life and story.
Moderate: Sexual assault, Pandemic/Epidemic
Minor: Death, Emotional abuse, Toxic relationship, Pregnancy
