Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends meets Hilda and the Troll in this spooky and sweet middle grade graphic novel about a monster girl who sneaks out of her foster home and into a human town in search of a forever family but finds more than she bargained for. I absolutely loved exploring the themes of family, friendship and loneliness through the eyes of Iris. The story begins when she sees a commercial for the local fall festival and the mayor promises that everyone in Dead End Springs is family. But Iris, like the other horrors, are trapped in a foster home to keep them safe from humans and hunters. It’s not until the sealed door is broken that Iris and her friends have a chance to explore the town in the hopes of finding Dahlia who seems to have gone missing when the door was opened. Iris, Agnes, and Kel set off in the hopes of finding Dahlia and in the process they discover things about the human world they never imagined. Loved the horrors, loved the art, highly recommend reading this during the fall when the leaves are falling and pumpkins are being carved.
