My first SK book in a while and while not my favourite I got something from it. As an analogy for war it's outstanding, young men not understanding what they're getting into losing to their bodies or brains before the enemy. Either way, you end up dead. There were a few 'holy shit' moments, and I liked the character work and dynamics. However I wish I knew more about the world and how this fascist totalitarian state came to be, though that isn't the point of the book and I'm aware it's a personal desire as a reader. Though definitely thought provoking, I didn't find it as impactful as I would have hoped, though it was hugely readable and I'm glad I read it I can't see myself going back to it in the future.
