dark
mysterious
I was completely enchanted by this -- there were multiple moments throughout the novel when I was conscious of thinking that I was surprised to be enjoying it so much, but I was just under its spell somehow. This is most certainly due to the excellent performance by narrator Ines del Castillo, but also because of the prose, which was a captivating contradiction of short sentences, simple diction, and full, blossoming images.
