This is probably a no-brainer if you live in the US as most of you had to read this for school, but The Outsiders is not a well-known book in the rest of the world.
That being said, I am so glad I found out about it and picked it up. This was so unexpectedly good. Such a fast read, great characters - a simple yet poignant coming of age story. It really felt like I was in the head of a soft-hearted teenage boy and I didn’t think I will get so sad by reading a small novel such as this. And absolutely loved the ending, a full circle moment.
Almost as short as Of Mice and Men, it also manages to convey a bucketful of feelings and sadness for the ones society tends to leave behind. Luckily, this one ends on a slightly more hopeful note.
Read it if you haven’t, I can guarantee you won’t be disappointed.
