The House in the Cerulean Sea by TJ Klune
Did not finish book. Stopped at 51%.
I truly wanted to love this book. The concept of the plot really intrigued me, eg. magical children, set apart from society and a strange man who is in charge of making sure they’re properly cared for. What could go wrong?
Apparently a lot. Linus (MC) just was not the main character he needed to be. Understandably anxious about his assignment; his personality and response to most situations isn’t one that I found entertaining nor enjoyable to read. In fact it was frustrating reading each chapter and feeling like I hadn’t progressed. The children were probably the more interesting part, at least getting to know their different abilities. Yet beyond that the storytelling came flat, slow paced, and the plot didn’t really seem to have any real impact on the book.
Maybe I can pick it up another time, although I feel as though I will end with the same result. Giving up half-way through.
