Three Junes by Julia Glass

(4.5) This is a really good novel and it's so incredibly rich for not being that long; I felt completely immersed in the lives of the McLeod family and the other characters in the book. I loved the settings (Greece, Scotland, New York--a bookstore, no less!), the heartbreaking look at the AIDS epidemic before we knew how to protect ourselves, and the very meaningful way Glass plumbs the depths of the family, romantic, and platonic relationships and all of their complexities. I would re-read this later, for sure.

I didn't give it a full 5 stars because by the time I had finished it, I wished that the mother had her own section (maybe not instead of Paul, the father, because I really liked his section while I read it); she was a really important character and I feel like we didn't get all that we needed from the retrospective bits from other characters). Also, I wish that the end section had included at least some recognition by the characters of their connection as we knew it; it would've been more satisfying for me!
