Did You Miss Me? by Karen Rose

Did You Miss Me?
2 Stars

When her son is kidnapped, Assistant District Attorney Daphne Montgomery believes it is connected to her latest high profile case, but she and FBI Agent Joseph Carter soon realize that the key to saving Daphne's son may lie in unlocking the secrets of her traumatic past.

Not one of Rose's better efforts. The writing is overly repetitious with Daphne and Joseph's internal musing repeated ad nauseam. Moreover, there is too much telling and not enough showing.

The suspense is lacking tension as the identity of the villain is revealed early on. Moreover, Rose has a problematic tendency of providing her villains with sympathetic motivations even if their actions are diabolical - this is another case in point.

Finally, the romance feels forced. Daphne and Joseph have zero chemistry and their attraction isn't credible.

Unfortunately, this one is more of a miss than a hit. Stevie and Clay's book is next though and I've been looking forward to their story due to the build up. I really hope it lives up to its potential.
