The Otherworld by Abbie Emmons

4.0

More like ⭐️⭐️⭐️,5 stars.

Orca grows up on a lighthouse island, away from civilization. When one day she discovers a cellphone washed up on the shore of the island, and tries calling one of the numbers on it, her whole, isolated existence turns upside down.

Since I’ve been following Abbie for a while, I knew going in what I signed up for.

Abbie’s love for period dramas shines very clearly through in this story, and the romantic vibes are on from the start.

And even so, my inner, pragmatic, semi-islander old lady has a liiittle trouble accepting some of the story elements. I won’t complain, because they fit the story, and if you view this as a romantic, whirlwind fairytale, there’s no problem.

And it IS a whirlwind. From the moment we meet Orca, to the moment she talks to Jack, to the moment she meets Adam, we’re taken by the hand and led every step of the story.

Abbie is (for the most part) a very efficient writer who doesn’t waste page space on unnecessary things, which I really like. And she’s excellent at mixing emotion, humor and action.

This book made me stop and think a lot, which is also something I like.

A very sweet, heartwrenching and warming story about family, friendship and love.
