wimerek 's review for:
The Snowman
by Jo Nesbø
What I enjoyed:
-Beautiful, poetic, and engaging writing. Something I did not expect for a translated novel.
-Interesting characters, and specifically written POVs from many of them. Even small one-paragraph perspectives of very small parts
-The main protagonist is human and likable
-Definitely keeps you guessing and exploits the reader's attempts to solve the mystery along the way
-Great plot pacing, I never felt like the story lingered too long. I wish other authors were as good with pacing as Nesbo is
-The narration was excellent (audiobook), Robin Sachs' raspy voice was great and astonishingly able to give each character their own unique and appropriate sounding tone
What I didn't enjoy:
-While the suspense was decent, I was surprised it wasn't more intense. I would have liked it ramped up much more.
-Not much else I didn't like, for what it is.. a gritty crime suspense novel, it's very very good.
